Gousse on UNE dean’s list

Joseph Gousse was recently named to the dean’s list at the University of New England.

Gousse is a 2008 graduate of Westbrook High School and the son of Marc and Jeanne Gousse of Westbrook. Marc Gousse is the Westbrook superintendent of schools.

A senior, majoring in political science, Gousse is a member of the honors program for the Political Science Department and College of Arts and Sciences. This past spring, he completed an internship through U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe’s regional office in Biddeford.

In December, he was accepted, through early decision, to the University of Maine School of Law in Portland, where he will attend beginning this fall.

Lincoln Club plans banquet

Phyllis Bailey of Westbrook, corresponding secretary of The Lincoln Club, has announced its 127th annual banquet will be on Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Italian Heritage Center, 40 Westland Ave., Portland.

Bailey said Lynda Sudlow, author of the book, “A Vast Army of Women; Maine’s Uncounted Forces in the American Civil War,” will speak. The program is dedicated this year to club member Cora L. Brown, 101, who has been active in the club more than 70 years.

Republican caucus

The Westbrook Republican primary caucus will be held 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 5, in the cafeteria at Westbrook Middle School on Stroudwater Street.

The city clerk will be on hand to check registration and to register new voters. As in the past, delegates will be elected for this year’s Republican convention. For those who have interest in attending the convention, there is a fee of $25 for delegates.

The Westbrook Republican Committee’s next meeting will be 6:30-7:30 p.m., on Wednesday, Feb. 8, in the Community Room at Westbrook Community Center on Bridge Street.

All Republicans are welcome and asked to attend to help build its ranks.

Vacation dance camp plans

Drouin Dance Center will host a February vacation dance camp at their facility at 90 Bridge St. in the Dana Warp Mill.

Camp will be the week of school vacation week -from Monday, Feb. 20, through Thursday, Feb.23, for ages 3 and up. Camp for ages 3-5 is 9-11 a.m. and $10 a day or $40 a week. Camp for ages 6 and up is 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and is $25 day or and $100 a week. No experience is necessary and it is open to all children.
