Eugley leads Westbrook Maroon to win
Fresh off of a 10-9 loss, Westbrook Maroon bounced back July 11 to defeat Deering 16-13 in the boys of summer baseball league. Westbrook was led by the bat of Matthew Eugley, who moved from the No. 3 spot in the lineup to leadoff and contributed a triple and a home run, his first of the season, and scored three times.
Westbrook Maroon trailed 5-2 after the first inning and scored five runs in the second and never looked back. Deering played a tough game, but in the sixth inning Austin Fectue out-pitched Deering to seal the win.
In the sixth inning Deering loaded the bases, and with two outs Garren Post charged a short line drive to center field and ran the ball all the way to second base for the force out to end the game.
Westbrook dominated with stolen bases on a constant flow. Westbrook Maroon stood at 2-2 heading into this week’s matchup with South Portland.
