PORTLAND – Deke Andrew announced his resignation Friday as the Cheverus High boys’ lacrosse coach.

“The growth of my year-round lacrosse business, our new indoor facility and my new family leave me with little time to coach in the spring,” said Andrew, who coached the Stags for their first 14 varsity seasons.

“I can’t ask 100 percent from the boys when I am unable to give 100 percent myself.”

Andrew, who grew up playing lacrosse in Yarmouth, operates 207Lacrosse, which sponsors leagues, clinics and travel programs for lacrosse players of all ages, and the Riverside Athletic Center in Portland.

“This will give me more time to work with kids from all over and focus on Maine lacrosse as a whole,” Andrew said.

Last June, Cheverus won its first Eastern Class A lacrosse championship.

Scarborough defeated the Stags 9-4 in the state final at Fitzpatrick Stadium.
