Winter Wonderland
Grab your hats and mittens and prepare to explore an outdoor winter wonderland at a Pineland Farms’ family education program held from 10-11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 20. Historical Society annual meeting
The 2016 annual meeting of the New Gloucester Historical Society will be held on Thursday, Jan. 21, at 7 p.m., at the New Gloucester Meetinghouse, 389 Intervale Road. Refreshments will be served. All members are urged to attend.
Attention VAST winter volunteers
Are you a military veteran who is interested in helping out this winter with the weekly Pineland Farms Veterans Adaptive Sports and Training (VAST) cross-country skiing and snowshoeing program? VAST volunteer training will take place on Saturday, Jan. 16, from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., at the Outdoor Center, 15 Farm View Drive, New Gloucester.
This training session will focus on reviewing and practicing principles of skiing in order to teach others, learn about adaptive ski equipment and techniques, study emergency protocols, and review principles of VAST programming. In the event there is no snow, the group will practice indoors and on grass.
The VAST cross-country skiing and snowshoeing program for veteran participants is held on Wednesdays from 9 a.m.-noon through March. Cycle/Yoga Fusion class
Don’t miss a new chance to challenge yourself while gaining a better understanding of training with mindfulness and focus. The YMCA of Southern Maine – Pineland Branch, 25 Campus Drive, New Gloucester, is offering a one-day workshop fusing together cycle and yoga all in one amazing two-hour class that is designed for all athletes age 14 and older.
Join the Cycle/Yoga Fusion Master Class to take place on Sunday, Jan. 31, from 10 a.m.-noon. The cost is $16 for YMCA members and $32 for non-members. Pre-registration is required. For more information, call 688-2255.
License your dog soon
All dogs need to be licensed upon reaching the age of six months or after the canine has been with the family for 10 days, if adopted. Dog licenses for the 2016 year are available at the New Gloucester town office, or online for an extra $1 per dog. Go to www.maine.gov and click on the “Services” menu.
Dog licenses all expire Dec. 31 of each year, but there is a one-month grace period. Spayed or neutered dogs are $6 and unaltered are $11. After Sunday, Jan. 31, there will be a state mandated late fee of $25 per dog.
