Office hours

Regular Durham Town Office hours are Monday, Tuesday and Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Wednesday closed and Thursday, 10:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. The office will be closed Monday, Jan. 20, for Martin Luther King Day. For more information, call 353-2561.

Meetings

Durham selectmen will meet Tuesdays, Jan. 14 and 28, at 6:30 p.m., at the Town Office.

The Planning Board meets Wednesday, Jan. 8, at 7 p.m., in the Town Office.

The town codes enforcement officer is at the Town Office on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 15 and 29, from 5-7 p.m. There are no hours Jan. 22 because of the Martin Luther King Day holiday.

Nomination papers available Thursday

Starting Thursday, Jan. 9, nomination papers for elected office will be available at the Town Clerk’s Office during business hours. The potential candidate will need to sign out the nomination papers. The candidate must get 25 signatures but not more than 100 signatures of registered voters of Durham.

Nomination papers must be returned by candidates to the town clerk on Monday, Feb. 24, no later than 4:30 p.m., to have their name appear on the municipal ballot for election on April 4. Town meeting is April 5 at 9 a.m. Durham Community School. Positions for elected office are:

Selectmen/assessor: two, three-year terms and one, two-year term.

Budget Committee: Three, three-year terms

Eureka Center for rent

The Durham Eureka Community Center is available for rent. The maximum amount of people the hall holds for an event is 50. For rentals, contact Nancy Decker at 751-1323 or the Town Office at 353-2561

At the community center

The Durham Eureka Community Center, corner of Route 9 and Route 136, hosts cribbage every Tuesday from 9 a.m.-noon at the Eureka Center. For more information call the Town Office at 353-2561.

Couponing for the Community meets every other Tuesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Pat Provost heads this community project with the hopes that some of the skills acquired will be used to give back to the community by helping families in need.

Registration forms are available at the Durham Town Office or on www.durhammaine.com, which also lists new events and classes.

Food pantry

Lisbon Area Christian Outreach serves the towns of Bowdoin, Durham and Lisbon Falls.

The hours are Wednesday from 6-8 p.m., Thursday 10 a.m.-noon and Saturday 8-10 a.m. The Food Pantry is located at the Marion T. Morse School on School Street. The parking lot for the food pantry is behind the Lisbon United Methodist Church off Berry Avenue. In addition to the food pantry there is a free clothing bank.
