PORTLAND – Emily Bunting, Rachel Wallace and Katie Granzier scored first-half goals and Scarborough rolled to a 4-0 win over Cheverus in a clash of unbeaten field hockey teams Friday afternoon.
Bunting struck for an unassisted goal just 2:07 into the contest, and Rachel Wallace made it 2-0 about five minutes later. Granzier scored with an assist from Abby Walker midway through the first half.
Karli-An Gilbert added a goal in the second half, assisted by Grace Whalen.
Shannon Hicks faced only two shots in goal for Scarborough (8-0), which was ranked second in Western Class A.
Libby DesRuisseaux made four saves for top-ranked Cheverus (8-1).
WESTBROOK 1, DEERING 0: Sarah Hopkins scored off a rebound with 4:13 left in regulation as the Blue Blazes (6-2) edged the Rams (4-4) at Westbrook.
Nicole Miranda finished with one save while recording her sixth shutout of the season.
Deering goalie Bri Delano recorded nine saves.
WINDHAM 2, BONNY EAGLE 0: Hannah Skvorak and Katelyn Tucker scored off penalty corners in the first 12 minutes as the Eagles (2-6-1) downed the Scots (1-5-1) at Windham.
Both goals came on rebounds.
GORHAM 1, KENNEBUNK 0: Gabby Martell scored on an assist from Evelyn Viernes with 4:37 left in the first half to lead Gorham (5-3) to a win at Kennebunk (3-5).
Gorham goalie Patty Smith and Kennebunk’s Katherine Cotton finished with two saves apiece.
THORNTON ACADEMY 3, PORTLAND 0: Karen Jacques had two assists and the Golden Trojans (5-3) used three first-half goals to beat the Bulldogs (0-7-1) at Saco.
Morgan Dube, Libby Pomerleau and Kaitlin Hilton scored. Abbey Siulinski needed one save for the shutout.
Gianna Gaudet made 12 saves for Portland.
WAYNFLETE 5, SACOPEE VALLEY 0: Nyanen Deng and Elizabeth Berthy scored two goals apiece to lead the Flyers (6-3) past the Hawks (1-7-1) at Portland.
Jo Moore also scored, and Katherine Torrey made 14 saves for the shutout.
BOYS’ SOCCER
FRYEBURG ACADEMY 2, TRAIP ACADEMY 2: Nicholas Mauer scored twice for Fryeburg (2-3-2) in a tie with the Rangers (4-2-1) at Kittery.
Fryeburg led 2-1 at the half, but Gabriel Mancini scored from Evan Pereira with 25 minutes left in regulation.
Brandon Metevier scored in the first half for Traip.
Paul Dostie made 12 saves for the Raiders.
NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 3, FREEPORT 1: D.J Nicholas scored all three goals for the Panthers (5-3-1) against the visiting Falcons (1-6-1).
Nicholas scored from Jacob Scammon with 2:06 left in the first half.
He got his second with an assist by Jackson Cohen-Smith 15 minutes into the second half, and his third after an Aiden McLaughlin feed with just under eight minutes left.
Connor Dietrich scored after three minutes for Freeport.
BRUNSWICK 1, BANGOR 0: Greg Watson finished with eight saves and Konnor Scarponi scored on an assist from Ryan Black as the Dragons (5-2-1) edged the Rams (4-1-3) at Brunswick.
A.R. GOULD 2, GREATER PORTLAND CHRISTIAN 1: Keelin White scored a pair of goals in the first 13 minutes of the second half to lift the Bears (1-4) over the Lions (4-2) at South Portland.
White opened the scoring two minutes into the second half. Ethan Spaulding tied the game for the Lions less than three minutes later on an assist from Ryan Waugh.
A.R. Gould keeper Chris Hogan and James Perkins of Greater Portland Christian each finished with 10 saves.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
CAPE ELIZABETH 1, GREELY 0: Addison Wood scored and Mary Perkins made seven saves as the Capers (6-1) blanked the Rangers (3-3) at Cumberland.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH 2, FREEPORT 1: Olivia Dubois headed in a corner from Amy Twohig in the second half to lift the Seagulls (5-1-1) over the visiting Falcons (3-4).
Ashley Richardson of Freeport and Abby Dubois of Old Orchard Beach scored first-half goals.
Jaclyn MacDonald of OOB and Aubrey Pennell of Freeport each made six saves.
TRAIP ACADEMY 1, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 1: Jessie Batchelder scored for Traip (0-5-1) with 24:07 left in regulation, but Lexi L’Heureux-Carland answered less than four minutes later for the Raiders (0-6-1) in a tie at Fryeburg.
Esme Hernandez’s corner kick set up the tying goal.
Eileen Macomber made 10 saves for Traip. Ellie Burbank made two saves for Fryeburg.
VOLLEYBALL
SCARBOROUGH 3, CAPE ELIZABETH 0: Mary Cleary had 10 kills and Lily Lemire made nine digs as Scarborough (6-1) won at Cape Elizabeth (1-4), 25-7, 25-20, 25-8.
Emma O’Rourke had nine kills and seven digs for the Capers.
