WESTBROOK – A new Vietnamese restaurant is about to open in Westbrook.
Phoever Maine is located at 100 Larrabee Road, in the old Top Dogs location.
Owners Truc and Mai Huynh hope to open the restaurant in May. The City Council will hold a hearing May 7 on their request for a beer and wine license.
According to the restaurant’s website, Truc Huynh’s family immigrated to the United States from Vietnam in 1989 and has been cooking authentic foods, like pho, a hearty beef noodle soup, stir fries and rice dishes.
The restaurant has two food challenges: Customers who finish the Cathedral Abol of Pho, a large bowl of the noodle soup in less than one hour, or the Westbrook Blue Blaze pho bowl in less than 10 minutes, will have their pictures posted on the wall.
According to the restaurant website, the owners went through a number of ideas for names, including, PhoGetAboutiT and Pho Score & 7 Eggrolls Ago before deciding on Phoever Maine to pay tribute to the state while recognizing their past.
