Historic Buxton school talk topic
The fate of the historic S.D. Hanson School building in Buxton Center will be discussed when the Community Heritage Alliance of Rural Maine meets 6:30-8:30 p.m., on Monday, April 20, at Buxton Hollis Historical Society, 100 Main St., Bar Mills.
“This building may be vacated soon, and possibly demolished,” the alliance has announced. “Is there interest within the SAD 6 community in working towards the potential re-purposing of this building into a Community Center/Gym for residents of SAD 6?”

Cemetery association to meet
John Myers, secretary of the South Buxton Cemetery Association, has announced its annual meeting for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, in Buxton Town Hall, 185 Portland Road.

Nomination papers deadline nears
Nomination papers for elected positions in the municipal election are due to be filed by 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 27, in the office of Town Clerk John Myers.
Seats available include one selectman, two directors for Maine School Administrative District 6, two Planning Board members, and two Budget Committee members. All are three-year terms.
The election will be held on Tuesday, June 9, and the annual town meeting is set for Saturday, June 13.
Niedermeyer on dean’s list
Greta Niedermeyer of Buxton has been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at the University of Scranton in Scranton, Pa. Niedermeyer, a sophomore, is majoring in biology in the university’s College of Arts and Sciences.
McAuley honor students
Catherine McAuley High School in Portland has recognized two Buxton students, Inez Chace-Ortiz and Mai R. Mangin, for achieving highest honors for the second quarter.
