Legion Meeting

American Legion Post 148 meets on Wednesday, March 5, at the Windham Veterans Center to plan for the annual St. Patrick’s Day Scholarship dinner on March 15. Social hour, 5 p.m. with business meeting at 6 p.m. This is an important meeting.

Windham Neighbors Helping Neighbors sends out sincere thanks for donations received recently from Windham Knights of Columbus, Windham Hill UCC Women’s Fellowship, Peter Vanloan, and anonymous donations. There are many wonderful and generous individuals, organizations and companies in Windham. These donations are entirely used for emergency fuel to keep Windham warm!

Windham Land Trust

Windham Land Trust meets at 7 p.m. on March 5 at the library. The public is welcome. Thanks to everyone who purchased raffle tickets for the doll house and rocking motorcycle made by inmates from Maine Correctional Center. Democrats Caucus

Windham Democratic Party will hold its biennial Caucus on Sunday, March 2, at 2 p.m. in Windham Town Council Chambers. A voter registrar will be available from 1:30-2 p.m.

After the caucus there will be a brief organizational meeting of the Windham Democratic Town Committee and election of 2014-2016 Town Committee Officers.

Haddock Dinner

On Saturday, March 1, from 5-6 p.m., Windham Knights of Columbus will serve a baked haddock dinner at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Windham. Menu includes haddock, mashed potato, coleslaw, veggies, rolls, beverages and dessert. A pizza alternative will be available. Cost $9 adults, $4 children 12 and under, a family maximum of $25. Tickets sold at the door. Proceeds will benefit a Dominican Sisters community in Maine, which provides safety and shelter to women in need.

Mardi Gras celebration

Mardi Gras will be celebrated on Saturday, March 1, from 5-7 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 988 Roosevelt Trail. There will be a creole buffet with music provided by the Faith Lutheran Jazz Band as well as a Mardi Gras parade. Mask and beads will be provided. This will be a fun family night for all. Holocaust Tales

Windham High School’s One Act team will present “The Spirit of Life: Hasidic tales of the Holocaust” from Feb. 28 to March 2. Performances of The Spirit of Life will be held Feb. 28 and March 1 at 7 p.m. and March 2 at 5 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, and $20 for families. Windham High School is located at 406 Gray Road.

Efficiency Meeting

On Tuesday, March 11, from 7-9 a.m., at Greater Portland Council of Governments, 970 Baxter Boulevard, Portland, a breakfast meeting and workshop will be held to present Efficiency Maine’s Business Program incentives and assistance programs for businesses to reduce energy consumption. Windham’s American Legion will sponsor the 4th annual St. Patrick’s Day Scholarship dinner at Windham Veterans Center on March 15. A corned beef and cabbage boiled dinner with all the traditional fixings will be served from 5-6:30 p.m. Tickets will be $10; family of three or more, $30. Proceeds support the Post’s scholarship program for Windham High School graduates. For information and/or tickets, call 892-1306.

Seniors Meet

Lakes Region Senior Center at Sunset Ridge Golf Links, 771 Cumberland St. (River Road), Westbrook, is a drop-in center open Monday-Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Stop in to socialize, play a table game, craft or join the puzzle table. Bingo on Friday.

Medicare Help?

On Tuesdays, March 4 and 18, the Southern Maine Agency on Aging (SMAA) will offer a Medicare seminar and counseling for the Lakes Region at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at 919 Roosevelt Trail, Windham. A “Welcome to Medicare” seminar is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon. In addition to the Medicare seminar, there will be one-on-one counseling with volunteer Medicare advocates available from 9 a.m.-noon. The seminar and counseling are intended to help you sort through your Medicare options, answer questions – and to help you enroll. In addition to Medicare assistance, counseling on tax and rent rebate, food stamps, and fuel assistance can be arranged.

Call the Southern Maine Agency on Aging to register for an upcoming seminar or to make a one-on-one appointment with a Medicare Advocate at 207-396-6500 or 1-800-427-7411. Seminar walk-ins can usually be accommodated.
