Windham resident Leon Pride hands in final signatures to Deputy Town Clerk Judy Vance of a petition to restrict a 75-acre quarry on the corners of Route 302 and Nash Road proposed by developer Peter Busque.
The quarry received its first round of approval last week by the Windham Planning Board and now goes before the Windham Town Council for final review.
A group of concerned neighbors collected 1,153 signatures to petition the town to adopt new “mineral extraction” regulations to guard against any adverse effects the quarry might have on nearby homes and businesses.
With the petition complete, the Windham Town Council now has 30 days to set a public hearing on the amended “mineral extraction ordinance” and the question remains whether the council will consider the quarry’s final approval or the ordinance change first. Staff photo by Douglas Wright
