A new front lobby and main office area was opened to students recently at Bonny Eagle High School on Saco Road in Standish.
Construction on the addition and renovation project began in March of this year. Funds for the construction were approved in a bond question approved by the voters in SAD 6 communites in June of 2004. The purpose of the $1.25 million bond was to renovate and expand areas of the high school including the front lobby and the front circle parking area where parents pick up and drop off students.
The expanded lobby and main office design was intended to help with crowding on the first floor and make the building safer and more secure for students and faculty.
“The new entrance provides security for the school that we did not have before,” said interim Assistant Principal Robert Bourget. “I think the new lobby entrance is great.”
School receptionist Paulette Provencher agreed.
“The new entrance is much more welcoming for students and parents,” said Provencher. “Because it is more spacious, student traffic through the office is not as chaotic, it gives the students more room to move.”
The bond issue also included renovations to the cafeteria along with installation of an automatic fire protection system throughout the building. All renovations and upgrades are scheduled for completion by September 2008.
