A Portland police officer who lives in Windham has been charged with two counts of misdemeanor assault stemming from a fight early last month in Portland’s Old Port.

Todd Bacon, 30, pleaded not guilty to charges that he assaulted two men on Fore Street at 1:30 a.m. July 2. His lawyer, Michael Cunniff entered the plea last week in Cumberland County District Court, stating that his client acted in self-defense with one of the alleged victims. The contact with the other man was accidental, Cunniff said.
