Local athletes were among those honored with postseason awards by the Southern Maine Activities Association.
The SMAA released its softball all-star teams for the 2012 season.
Windham’s Logan Genest earned an honorable mention, while teammates Sara Richards and Sasha Van Baars were named to the all-academic team.
For Bonny Eagle, Lindsey Howell was a second-team all-star, while Mariah Harrison was an honorable mention. Howell, Ashley Roux, Jessica Sullivan, Brooke VanRosendael and Megan Whitman were named to the all-academic team for the conference.
Julia Geaumont of Thornton Academy dominated the individual awards, winning Player of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year. In separate voting, she was named Miss Maine Softball, an award that also included Hannan as a finalist.
Janelle Bouchard of Kennebunk won the Defensive Player of the Year award, while Rick Melanson of Noble was the SMAA Coach of the Year.
The SMAA also released its all-star teams for boys and girls track & field season.
Making the first team on the boys side were Jeremy Collins of Bonny Eagle (300 hurdles), and Shane Corbett of Bonny Eagle (discus).
Included on the second team were Kyle Bailey of Bonny Eagle (100 hurdles) and Tyson Goodale of Bonny Eagle (long jump).
Patrick Rice of Windham earned an honorable mention for the 100-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles, while teammate Justin Hardesty earned an honorable mention in the triple jump.
Local all-academic awardees were: Connor Dearborn and Matt Willis (both Bonny Eagle).
Hannah Damron of Windham made the girls second-team all-star squad in the triple jump, and was an honorable mention awardee in the 300-meter hurdles.
Also making the second team were Audrey Weyand (100-meter dash and 400-meter dash) and Samantha Cox (800-meter dash), both of Bonny Eagle.
Earning an honorable mention was Sophia Swiatek of Gorham (pole vault).
The all-academic team included: Stephanie Aiken, Nicole Kepron and Reba Meserve (all of Bonny Eagle).
