STANDISH – According to Standish Fire-Rescue Chief Brent Libby, the lone occupant of a residence in a densely populated neighborhood in Standish escaped an early-morning fire Thursday, April 11.

At 3:50 a.m. Standish Fire-EMS received a 911 call from the neighbor of 5 Bog Alley, located on Sebago Lake in Standish, reporting that his neighbor woke him up reporting his house was on fire, Libby said.

Crews arrived 10 minutes from the time of call to find heavy fire showing from the single-family, single-story year-round camp-style home.

The home was located in the Harmon’s Beach neighborhood on the western shore of Sebago Lake. The property owner was the only one home at the time and was awakened by smoke and fire. He was able to get out and go to the neighbors for help, Libby said.

Water was pulled from a dry hydrant from Sebago Lake at Harmon’s Beach a few hundred feet away from the residence.

The residence is a total loss. The cause is determined to be a chimney fire that extended to the structure, Libby said.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries. Units cleared the scene at 6 a.m. Firefighters from Sebago, Windham, Gorham, Limington and Buxton responded to the scene. Station coverage was provided by Baldwin and Raymond.
