Windham VFW meets

The first meeting of the new year will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 13, at the Windham Veterans Center, Memorial Drive. Social hour and supper will be at 5 p.m., followed by regular meeting at 6 p.m.

Democrats meet

The Windham Dems will hold its regular meeting Monday, Jan. 11, 7-8 p.m. in the Windham Public Library. All Democrats are welcome and encouraged to attend. Now is the time to start planning for the 2016 elections.

Veterans Service Officer can help

Veterans Service Officer Matt Haley will be available at the Windham Veterans Center on Wednesday, Jan. 13, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and Wednesday, Jan. 27, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Starting in February 2016, Haley will hold office hours on the second Wednesday only of the month with extended hours from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. He can be reached at his office near the Portland Airport, 151 Jetport Blvd., Room 138W or call 822-2391. Potluck lunch

Gorham Police Officer Ted Hatch will speak about scams of interest to senior citizens on Monday, Jan. 11, following an 11:30 a.m. potluck luncheon at the Lakes Region Senior Center, 40 Acorn St., in Gorham. There is no charge for the luncheon, if you bring a dish to share; if you prefer not to cook, there will be a $5 donation suggested. All are welcome.

Check in at Dena’s near the post office in North Windham, if you’re interested in playing poker. The Windham Veterans Center hosts poker on the first and third Wednesdays. Anyone interested can also call 653-1582 for more information. Proceeds benefit the veterans center.

Date night

Windham Center Stage Theater invites you to enjoy “Date Night” at the one night performance of “Love Letters” on Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. Child-care options are available and must be made in advance. Contact WCST for details. For more information, contact windhamcenterstagetheater@gmail.com.

Veterans commemorative pavers

One hundred granite pavers are being made available by the Windham Veterans Association to be installed in the Memorial Garden on Memorial Day 2016. Each paver will have up to three lines of veterans’ information with a cost of $50 per paver. More than 50 pavers have been sold during the last month. Don’t wait too long. Teen Writing Club

The Windham Public Library has scheduled a four-week Teen Writing Club to be held Wednesdays from 2:30-4 p.m. at the library. Topics include Five Love Languages, Poetry, Short Stories/Personal Narratives and Writer’s Free Choice. Notebooks and pens will be provided to all. Presenter is Mrs. Eanne Rhain, a retired middle school teacher who specialized in reading and writing strategies. Pick up a sign-up form at the library or call 572-4042.

Looking for tickets?

The Windham Parks & Recreation Department is offering discount tickets to a number of ski mountains as well as the Portland Pirates and Portland Dine-Around card. People will save a significant amount of money and time by purchasing their tickets this way. Stop by the Parks & Recreation Office anytime, 8 a.m.-4 pm., Monday-Friday or call 892-1905.

Rotary Club meeting

Bean supper

American Legion Field-Allen Post 148 will hold its first bean supper of the new year on Friday, Jan. 22, from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Windham Veterans Center. Tickets at the door are $8 for adults. Under age 12, free. The public is welcome.
