Seven different Rams added a goal apiece in Gorham’s 7-0 win over visiting Marshwood on Tuesday night. Erik Andreasen opened the scoring early in the first half, and the Rams never looked back from there.

“We had three real nice goals in the first half,” said Gorham head coach Tim King. “Then you go to the second half and I thought we had some nice goals. So we made some nice plays tonight.”

The Hawks had no answer as Jackson Fotter (assisted by Ethan Orach) added Gorham goal No. 2, then Thomas Brent No. 3 (a tip on a Jackson Taylor corner). Cody Elliot picked up No. 4, a PK; Gerek Brown No. 5, a header on a long throw-in by Taylor; Kyle King No. 6; and Sam Burghardt No. 7.

Can Gorham even take any lessons from such a straightforward victory? Of course, says King – which is probably what makes him a top-tier coach.

“When we talked at halftime, one of the things, we wanted to make sure we gave up nothing,” King said. “That was kind of our goal for halftime, to give them no chances and make sure we kept that zero on the board. Then we’ll take our chances when they come to us, offensively, and I thought we did that.”

“Marshwood has some dangerous players,” King added, “and they didn’t really hurt us tonight, so I was happy about that.”

Gorham controlled the action for the most part; starting keeper Trenton Bassingthwaite and eventual replacement Alex York faced nary a direct shot during their respective stretches in net.

“I don’t think Marshwood had much on goal for us tonight,” said King, “because our defense was solid – and we did have the ball a lot. We carried the play offensively, and that helps your defense.”

Tuesday was senior night at GHS, which King happily noted. “It’s always nice on senior night to start all these seniors and play well – which, I thought all our seniors played well.”

Andreasen, Kevin Brewer, Emerson Fox, Taylor, Elliot, Brown, Tristan Brunet, Brent, Nathaniel Nadeau and Bassingthwaite are the Rams’ seniors.

With the win Gorham jumped to 12-1-1 in 2015. The team is second only to Scarborough in the A South Heal Points.

Also noteworthy: the Lady Rams, playing at the same time, at Marshwood, also emerged victorious, 2-0. Elizabeth Sullivan had both goals for Gorham, shuttling the squad to 11-3 in 2015. They enter the postseason as the No. 3 seed.
