For more than 50 years, Windham schoolchildren have visited the Parson Smith House, as a part of their study of local history. This imposing structure was built in the middle of the first settlement of the town, about 1764. Now in private ownership, the ancient icon is for sale. Fearing that it would not be available for educational tours, the Windham Historical Society is conducting a fund-raising campaign to purchase the property and build a history center where workshops and seminars could be held. For more information, or to donate to the campaign, contact the Windham Historical Society, PO Box 1475, Windham, ME 04062 or one of the Parson Smith House acquisition committee members (Walter Lunt, Linda Hanscom, Gary Plummer, David Tanguay and others). You can also email Kay Soldier at kso48@aol.com.
