The recently formed South Portland/Cape Elizabeth Buy Local will hold its inaugural signature event at Bug Light Park on Saturday, Aug. 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The festival includes fun activities and local vendors, such Sea Dog Brewery, JP Thorton’s Bar & Grill, Taco Trio, the Whole Dog Market, the Essential Touch, Paulins Tire & Auto Care, and a cut-a-thon by hair stylists at Belissimo Hart & Soul, Flair For Hair, Creations, and South Portland Clipper Shop, with all proceeds donated to the South Portland Food Cupboard.
Kids will love Clifford the Big Red Dog from Nonesuch Books & Cards and the bounce house from One Stop Party Shoppe. Also participating are the South Portland Food Cupboard, which will accept nonperishable food items; the Cancer Community Center, which will have information on their largest fundraiser, Fight Back Festival; and the South Portland Historical Society, which is located in Bug Light Park and will be open for visitors. And you can capture all the fun with a photo from Maine Photogirls.
Rain date is Sunday, Aug. 18, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., announced through the Buy Local Facebook page by the morning of Friday, Aug. 16. Parking is available on Madison Street before entering Bug Light Park. Bug Light Park will be closed to traffic with the exception of boat ramp users and vendor set up. The Bicycle Coalition of Maine will provide bicycle valet for bike riders
The South Portland Buy Local was organized in 2010 to support South Portland’s locally owned businesses. In 2013, after hearing from members about the strong relationship between South Portland and Cape Elizabeth’s members and businesses, Buy Local’s board changed its name to SP/CE Buy Local. Since then, the Buy Local’s board members, officers, and members have envisioned planning a signature festival in South Portland that all residents and visitors can attend and enjoy.
