The Cape Elizabeth resident who is offering to pay for a new driveway and parking lot for the Winnick Woods trail system said he is optimistic that the Conservation Commission will accept his proposal and amend the Winnick Woods Master Plan.

Bruce Moore, who lives at 1108 Sawyer Road with Jan Chapman, said the current driveway included in the master plan for the trail system is too close to their house and wants to move it 75 to 100 feet further down the road at his expense.

Moore said he was working with Town Planner Maureen O’Meara and had already met with a contractor, who is drawing up plans for final approval by Cape Elizabeth Public Works Director Bob Malley.

The plans will hopefully be ready before the Conservation Commission’s July 20 meeting, Moore said. L.P. Murray and Sons, the contractor, has not given a cost estimate to Moore yet, but he said he expected it would be in the range of $10,000 to $15,000.

“I think it’s a win-win situation,” Moore said. “We get to maintain our privacy and the town gets the driveway and parking lot so people can come an walk the trails.”
