Historians to hear record-breaking swimmer Pat Gallant
Renowned marathon swimmer Pat Charette Gallant of Westbrook will speak when the Westbrook Historical Society meets at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at the Westbrook Community Center, 426 Bridge St.
Gallant has swum the English Channel, the Strait of Gibraltar, the Catalina Channel and recently the Tsugaru Strait in Japan. According to the historical society web site, her goal is to also swim across the Cook Strait in New Zealand, the Irish Channel and the Molokai Channel in Hawaii.
Singer to entertain seniors
Country singer Glenn Bryant will entertain when Westbrook Senior Citizens meet at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1, in the Westbrook Community Center, 426 Bridge St., Westbrook.
Seniors are planning a trip on Sunday, Dec. 9, to Indian Head in Lincoln, N.H. Next year, the group is organizing a trip on March 15 to Venus di Milo in Massachusetts for a lunch and show featuring the Women of Ireland.

Club baby shower
Westbrook Woman’s Club is hosting a baby shower at its meeting set for 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church, 810 Main St.
The baby shower for a needy newborn is in support of its state president’s project for 2012-2014. Those who do not have a list of needed baby items should contact Barbara Beesley at 854-5502.
Light refreshments will be served at the meeting.
Benefit for Ladd
Family and friends of recent stroke victim Cindy Ladd, a Westbrook native now living in Standish, are holding a benefit potluck fundraiser dinner on Friday night, from 6-10 p.m., at the Eagles Club at 89 Saco St.
