Yard Sale Leftovers

A few days ago I visited Windham’s Clothes Closet, a place where anyone can find good, clean clothing – some brand new. This service and the clothing is all free. Donations are welcome – but only clothing. The two ladies who volunteer here are busy for the few hours they are open each week. They’ve managed to create a clean, welcoming atmosphere in the basement of the Human Services Building. In addition to clothing (including shoes) there is a good selection of books and a very few selections of linen. During yard sale season, some folks have been dropping off all the “extras” from their yard sale, which requires the volunteers to sort through it to see if anything is included that they can add to the Closet. Most of the time, that doesn’t happen so they have to wait for the Salvation Army to pick it up. Room for storage is nonexistent. Hopefully, the word will get out that the Clothes Closet is just for useable clothing – not for yard sale leftovers.
