Police are asking for help from the public in their search for a man suspected of assaulting an 11-year-old girl at the Sebago Lake State Park Campground last week.
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department said the assault occurred July 14 at around 5:30 p.m., when a man grabbed the girl as she was swimming, causing her to touch him “in an inappropriate manner.”
The girl is a Windham resident who was camping with her family at the state park. She was swimming at the campground beach, near where the suspect, who was also swimming, had tied an inflatable boat to a tree.
The suspect is described as being in his 40s, between 5 feet 4 inches and 6 feet tall, with short, straight dark hair. He was wearing a bright yellow life jacket with a black zipper, black sport-style sunglasses, blue shorts and black Teva sandals.
The boat used by the suspect is described as an inflatable green Zodiac-style boat, 10 to 12 feet long with a black Mercury motor and white lettering or numbers.
Anyone who recognizes the suspect or has information about him is asked to call Lt. Donald Foss of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department Criminal Investigation Division at 774-1444 ext. 2112 or at (800) 266-1444 ext. 2208.
