Maine Walk to Cure Diabetes
Just after turning 12 years old, New Gloucester resident Isaac Blake was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) two years ago. His mother Shelley writes, “I’ll never forget that day, it changed our lives forever. Life with T1D is a daily challenge, and Isaac never gets a vacation or gets to ignore his diabetes. He needs to give himself injections of insulin with every meal and snack, and check his blood sugar as many as eight times a day.”
She is spreading the word about the Maine Walk to Cure Diabetes on Sunday, Sept. 15, in Saco, sponsored by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The group’s goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until a world without T1D is achieved. If you would like to donate to the “Hike for Ike” team, contact Shelley Blake, 926-5545, or tsiblake@yahoo.com.
