Bonny Eagle High School Health Club/Youth Advocacy program plants a garden in celebration of Red Ribbon Week to promote the “spirit of growth through the making of positive and healthy choices.” Planting the garden are Cyndie Lane, Health Club Advisor; Kristen Murray; Jen Murray; Amanda Murray; and Chanda Sinclair (Communities Promoting Health). Red Ribbon Week is the most far-reaching and well-known drug prevention event in America. The Red Ribbon Campaign was started when drug traffickers in Mexico City murdered a Drug Enforcement Administration agent in 1985. This began the continuing tradition and display of Red Ribbons as a symbol of intolerance toward the use of drugs. At Bonny Eagle High School, one of the activities of Red Ribbon Week was a tree and bulb planting done by the Health Club. The “garden” and display of ribbons is in front of the Support Services Building. The garden symbolizes the celebration of the Red Ribbon Week and the “spirit of growth” through the “making of positive and healthy choices.” Courtesy photo by Kathy Campbell
