The Downeasters Chorus will perform a concert at the North Windham Union Church on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m.

The barbershop chorus is made up of more than 40 men who share a common passion for singing great harmony. They come from all over southern Maine with several members from the Windham/Raymond area including the conductor, Jack Baggs. Performing along with several of their chapter quartets, the Downeasters will share their top quality sound, showing why they were awarded second place at the Northeastern District Championship last fall.

This concert is the 20th in the “Music with a Mission” series sponsored by the North Windham Union Church. The church donates a portion of the proceeds to area nonprofits. The first 19 concerts have provided over $17,000 for mission support to the church and other community organizations. The Downeasters are a nonprofit group themselves, and the community proceeds from this concert will help cover their costs as they travel to their international competition in Pittsburgh this summer. They are preparing to compete against 28 other choruses from around the world, in front of an audience of nearly 10,000 people.

“We are thrilled to have the Downeasters return to perform at Music with a Mission for the third time in three years” said Dr. Richard Nickerson, Minister of Music for the church. “Their previous two visits have been some of our most popular concerts, and helped raise over $2,000 for NWUC and local nonprofits. We are delighted to show why they were selected as one of the best choruses in the Northeast again this year, and to help them raise funds to return for their second international competition in just five years.”

Tickets will be sold at the door and are $12 for adults and $10 for students, children, and seniors. The box office opens at 6:15 p.m. and the doors will open at 6:30.
