Jim Gallant Band at Coffee House
Mix a little Americana, blues, folk, bluegrass and rockabilly with some great original music and you have the music of the Jim Gallant Band. Accompanying Gallant, who is a New Gloucester resident, are some extremely talented musicians. Guitarist Rick Masters, bassist Billy Belskis, and vocalist, percussionist and arranger Mark Burns round out the quartet.
Hear the band play at the next New Gloucester Village Coffee House, 7:30-9:30 p.m., Saturday, April 4. The concert venue will be the Vestry Community Room of the First Congregational Church, 19 Gloucester Hill Road, New Gloucester. Admission at the door is $10. Benefit Concert
The Concert for New Beginnings will be held Sunday, April 12, 4 p.m., at the Vestry Community Room of the First Congregational Church, 19 Gloucester Hill Road, New Gloucester. It features local musicians including the Bald Hill Band and Jesse Ricardi and Friends to benefit the Dorothy Larrabee Youth Development Fund, one of many worthy programs administered by Lewiston-based New Beginnings, which has served at-risk, runaway and homeless youth, and their families, since 1980.

Proper Disposal of Prescription Drugs
On Thursday, April 9, 1-1:30 p.m., a representative from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office will speak on “Prescription Drug Safety for Seniors,” pertaining to the safe storage and proper disposal of prescription drugs found in the home. The talk will take place at the Vestry Community Room of the First Congregational Church, 19 Gloucester Hill Road, New Gloucester.
Although geared toward senior citizens, people of all ages are welcome to attend. The event is free, and complimentary coffee and tea will be served. The public is encouraged to bring any expired or unwanted drugs for proper disposal by law enforcement. This informational talk will be held in collaboration with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and Casco Bay CAN (Create Awareness Now), a coalition working to prevent and reduce youth substance abuse in the region. History Barn Open House
The doors will be rolled open for members of the public to visit the New Gloucester History Barn, Saturday, April 4, from 9 a.m. to noon, located at 387 Intervale Road, directly behind the Town Hall. The featured exhibit will be the final showing of artifacts that were acquired in 2014. The barn is the property of the New Gloucester Historical Society. Admission is free.
Historic House Tour
The next monthly meeting of the New Gloucester Historical Society will be held for members on Thursday, April 16, 7 p.m., at 34 Gloucester Hill Road, New Gloucester. (Note that this is a different location than usual.) The program will be the 1939 New Gloucester Pageant, plus a historic house tour.
Easter Services, Sunday, April 5
• The New Gloucester Bible Church, located at 218 Lewiston Road (Route 100), will be holding its Easter Sunday sunrise service at 6:30 a.m. either in the cemetery across the street or in the little White Church, depending on the weather. Breakfast will follow at 7:30 a.m. at the Fellowship Hall. The full Easter Sunday service will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the church. All are welcomed. See www.ngbiblechurch.com.
• The New Gloucester Congregational Church will be holding their sunrise service at 5:45 a.m. at Opportunity Farm, 215 Gloucester Hill Road, New Gloucester. Bells will ring when the sun peeks over the horizon – or at the end of the service, if the sunrise is obscured. Attendees are encouraged to bring a bell or other tuneful object. Their sanctuary service starts at 9:30 a.m. at the church located at 19 Gloucester Hill Road, New Gloucester, followed by a special fellowship hour. Find out more details at www.ngucc.org.
