Shop, eat, dance at Idexx

Idexx Laboratories, 1 Idexx Drive, in Westbrook is hosting a festival with music, a flea market, yard sale and food, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, July 20.

Proceeds will benefit the United Way of Greater Portland.

Flea market vendors include Avon, Tupperware, local Maine crafters and photographers. A multi-family yard sale will feature items from dozens of attics, basements, closets and garages. Available items include bicycles, roller blades and other sporting equipment, kitchenware, books, movies and music, TVs, office equipment, clothing for all sizes and ages, posters, art, furniture (maybe antiques), tools, garden equipment, tons of toys and games.

Washburn Heights will provide the music and food will be available from Mainely Burgers and the IDAC culinary committee.

The rain date has been set for Sunday, July 21, 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

Worship in the park

Trinity Lutheran Church welcomes everyone in the community to join them on Sunday, July 21, at 9 a.m. at the gazebo in Riverbank Park on Main Street in Westbrook for the church’s annual outdoor worship service, followed by a brunch.

There will be seating, but those attending are free to bring their own comfortable chair or blanket.

Trinity is active in the local community and recently sponsored the Climb Aboard the Food Train event to support the food pantry. Each Wednesday from 5-6 p.m., the churc serves a free community meal that is held at the teen center for individuals and families of all ages.

All are welcome to join the outdoor worship in the park.

Walker library programs

In upcoming events, the world’s smallest working dog, Lucy, will be at Walker Memorial Library, 800 Main St. at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 19.

Then next week, Westbrook chef Chris McClay of Wellness Forum and owner/operator of Modern Vegan Cooking School will present an hour-long program titled “Take Control of Your Health” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23.

The program will serve as an introduction to a plant-based diet. There will be time for questions after and an opportunity to meet McClay. She’ll offer samples of several meals.

Westbrook Eagles Auxiliary 27977 has announced its third reading of by laws and voting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, at 89 Saco St., Westbrook. All auxiliary members are urged to attend.

UMaine dean’s list

A number of Westbrook students have been named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at the University of Maine.

They are Evan Amabile, Monica Amabile, Daniel Byrne, Alyssa Chauvette, Kristopher Doyon, Thomas Foley, Hannah Gowen, Sydney Hebert, Garrett Mercier, Andrew Silver, and Kelly Smith.

Now is Now concert

A free, summer concert series on Wednesdays in Riverbank Park continues 6-8 p.m. on July 24 with Now is Now.

Music alumni concert

Velourosaurus, a local jam band, kicked off the Bands on the Boardwalk event last week for the second year in a row at Saccarappa Park in front of a small crowd. Unfortunately, a rain shower stopped the band only a few songs in to the set. Every Thursday until Aug. 29, starting at 5:30 p.m., a new band will play in the park. The event will also feature a beanbag toss competition. Proftones; Aug 29, Peter Albert.Jackie Lynn Shane of Windham recently celebrated her 40th birthday with a surprise party at Thatchers in South Portland. The party was given by her husband, Bob Shane, daughter LeeAnna Sanphy, brother Michael Sanphy II and his wife Angela. Shane, who grew up in Westbrook, is the daughter of City Councilor Michael Sanphy Sr. of Westbrook and the late Sherry Davis.
