Spring 2006 Record: 2-13

Coach’s Outlook: “We should be competitive. We’d like to be able to compete with the top three teams in the league. It all depends on our pitching and defense,” said Connolly. “We have our entire pitching staff back so we’re set up well. Last year it seemed like we were always one hit away and we left a lot of people on base. This year we want to drive in those runners. We definitely want to be a playoff team.”
First game: Thursday, April 19, at Kennebunk at 1 p.m.
Softball
Coach: Jan Corliss (25th season)
Spring 2006 Record: Finished 11-3 and lost to South Portland in the West A semifinals.
Players to watch: Alyssa Dunn; Sr. (SS/1B), Kaitlin Williams; Jr. (P), Maddie Kluna (P), Sarah Violette (3B).
Coach’s Outlook: “We’re optimistic. We may start off slow but we should pick up speed at the end,” said Corliss. “We had to replace seven starters this year so it’s tough. I think we have all the pieces to the puzzle, we just need to figure out where they fit.”
First game: Friday, April 20, at Thornton Academy at 1 p.m.
Boys’ lacrosse
Coach: Nathaniel Germond (3rd season)
Spring 2006 Record: 5-7
Players to watch: Jesse Doehler; Sr. (attacker), Kayle Hamilton; Jr. (midfield), Curran Mcgarry (midfield), Adam Theriault (defense), Joe Mendes; Sr. (defense), Seth Spiller (defense), Marco Stefano (defense).
Coach’s Outlook: “We’re very optimistic.”
First game: Tuesday, April 24, at Biddeford at 4 p.m.
Girls’ lacrosse
Coach: Judith Martin (3rd Season)
Spring 2006 Record: 5-7
Players to watch: Amy Richardson; Jr. (defense), Melissa Ruel, Jessica Spearin; Sr. (attack).
Coach’s Outlook: “We hope to make the playoffs (this year) because we didn’t last year,” said Martin. “We’re a young team but we show a lot of promise.”
First game: Thursday, April 26, versus Gorham at 4 p.m.
Boys’ tennis
Coach: Tim Gleason (1st season)
Spring 2006 Record: 2-10
Players to watch: Senior James Hanley
Coach’s Outlook: “This is my first year with the Scots so leadership is something that we’re going to have to rely heavily on,” said Gleason. “I’m expecting a lot from James Hanley, a senior who played on a very competitive and well disciplined basketball team this winter. Competitiveness can be quite difficult to teach and my hope is that with James and a number of returning upperclassmen leading the way, we can immediately step onto the court with some positive expectations.”
First match: Monday, April 23, at Massabesic at 3:30 p.m.
Girls’ tennis
Coach: Debra Semle (1st season)
Players to watch: Laura Bell, Maria Hall, and Karli Kesson.
Coach’s Outlook: “We have a no cut policy and a lot of new faces this year,” said Semle. “We are very excited to see how the season goes.”
First match: Monday, April 23, versus McAuley
Boys’ track
Coach: Greg Wilkinson (19th season)
Spring 2006 Record: 12-1 regular season record; they won the Southwestern Maine title, and they finished fourth at the Class A state meet.
Athlete’s to watch: Nate Doehler; So. (discus, javelin, 300 hurdles), Jamie Ruginski; So. (400, 800, triple jump, long jump), Allen Cox; Sr. (racewalk), Murphy Doughty; Jr. (1600, 800).
Coach’s Outlook: “It will be interesting this year. We have many questions. Can we answer those questions? We’ll see,” said Wilkinson. “It’s going to be a learning experience, we’ll have some fun and work on improving. We’re preparing for the future.”
First meet: Tuesday, April 24, with Gorham and Cheverus at Noble
Girls’ track
Coach: John Turrell (9th season)
Spring 2006 Record: Finished 12-3 in the regular season and 15th in Class A state meet.
Athlete’s to watch: Kat Pagano (1600, 3200), Amber Cronin (high jump), Melissa Carrier (sprints), Kaitlyn Gardiner (100 hurdles).
Coach’s Outlook: “We should have a strong season,” said Turrell. “In the running events we cover things pretty well and our high jump is strong. We should do well this season.”
First meet: Wednesday, April 25, with McAuley and Cheverus at Gorham.
