Gorham students in Sousa honor band
Four Gorham High School students and 14 Gorham Middle School students have been named to participate in the New England Region John Philip Sousa National Honor Band festival on April 19, 20 and 21 at the Bromfield School in Harvard, Mass.
The high school students are Michael Sullivan Jr., a junior, baritone saxophone; Justin Reyers, a junior, euphonium; Amy Sutherland, senior, euphonium; and Nicole Sutherland, senior, flute.
Middle school Grade 8 students are Connor Goodall, trumpet; Carson Kuschke, French horn; and Alex Young, alto saxophone.
Grade 7 students are Elsa Alexandrin, tenor saxophone; Emily Chapin, euphonium; Kara Ellsmore, alto saxophone; Theodore Lockman, trumpet; Samuel Martel, trumpet; Haley Poitras, alto saxophone; Stella Rojecki, flute; Samuel Roussel, percussion – snare; Karen Stemm, flute; Katherine-Helene Sullivan, French horn; and Evelyn Turnbaugh, trumpet.
The Gorham students were among 250 selected from 1,200 schools in New England. High School students will perform in the Symphonic Band and middle school students will play in the Concert Band.
Library open ?house set
In celebration of National Library Week, the North Gorham Public Library will host an open house and pie sale on Saturday, April 14, from 10 a.m. to 1p.m.

Founders festival dates set
This year’s two-day Gorham Founders Festival will be held on Friday, May 25, and Saturday, May 26.
Highlights include a pancake breakfast, live auction, Motor Booty Affair, amusement rides, Granite State Zoo, chicken barbecue dinner, The Time Pilots, local performers and fireworks. The events, which will kickoff Memorial Day weekend, will be adjacent to Narragansett School on Main Street

Projects on woman’s club agenda
Two annual projects will be featured when Gorham Woman’s Club meets at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 12, in Fellowship Hall at the First Parish Church, 1 Church St.
Nancy Kenty will present the art show that honors the work of high school artists. There are prizes and winners’ art then moves on to district and state competitions. Gloria Tewhey will talk about the Youth Leadership Program to which Gorham Woman’s Club contributes each year.
All are welcome.
Triad to hear Loranger
Joel Loranger of Key Bank will speak about bank identity theft when the Westbrook-Gorham Triad meets 8:45-10:15 a.m. on Friday, April 13, in the Gorham Municipal Center, 75 South St.
Triad is a collaborative of senior citizens, law enforcement and community services that promotes safety for seniors.
U.S. taxpayer debt
The Bureau of Public Debt reported on March 29 that the U.S. public debt was $15,579,852,946,457.64.
