The North Windham Union Church, a United Church of Christ located on Route 302, has invited a traditional New Orleans-style jazz band to play at its Sunday, Sept. 11, 10 a.m. worship service.

The service, featuring the Portland-based State Street Traditional Jazz Band, will seek to celebrate the spirit and courage of the people of the Gulf States of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama through hymns and prayers.

In addition, that Sunday marks the fourth anniversary of the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001. The church service will also endeavor to hallow and preserve the memory of those fallen heroes of our fire, rescue, police and victims of the hijacked flights.

A special offering will be taken by the church and contributed through the churches of the Maine Conference of the United Church of Christ to aid in relief efforts.
