Seventh-graders at Bonny Eagle Middle School concluded their study of the Civil War with a day-long reenactment last week.

The project began by integrating social studies, science, language arts, dance, music, and theater. Songs and writings were also explored, as were foods, games, and customs of the time. Students learned to do the Virginia Reel. They made lunch and ate foods that soldiers would have eaten.

Classroom study culminated with the reenactment of Pickett’s Charge at Gettysburg. The students were responsible for costumes, property design, and construction. They learned stage combat and character development based upon actual historical figures of the time.
