Editor,
According to an article published in 2005 by the Bible Literacy Project, young Americans know very little about the Bible. Think how many more in 2007. But then a fair number of Americans do not see why youngsters and/or oldsters and all those in between should know anything about the Bible.
For those who have read the Bible there are many good reasons to do so. It tells us the Good News of salvation. If we want to be in the know, on the cutting edge, we would read the Bible because it is the world’s best seller. The book is historically reliable and filled with real people and exciting events and not all the people are “good.”
Whether we are a believer or not, the Bible is acknowledged as the greatest creative force in history. The book inspired by God has survived sustained attack for more than 2000 years. The thread of redemption runs through it from beginning to end.
We at Lake Region Baptist Church in conjunction with Child Evangelism Fellowship are privileged to offer Vacation Bible School Aug. 20-24 at the church located on Route 302 across from Fishermen’s Net in Raymond. The theme this year is “Turned Around.” Youngsters will explore the lives of Zacchaeus, Mephibosheth, Noah, the Ethiopian treasurer, and Saul through stories, crafts and recreation. Homemade snacks will be served. Children 6-12 are welcome. Pre-registration will be at the church Aug. 16 and 17 at 6 p.m.
Thank you,
Rev. Barbara D. Adlard
Associate Pastor
