Bonny Eagle clubs honored
On Feb. 26, the Class A State Football champion Bonny Eagle Scots and their coaches visited the State House to be recognized in the House and Senate Chambers and meet with Gov. Baldacci. State Reps. Gary Moore, R-Standish, and Don Marean, R-Hollis, greeted the Scots in the Visitors’ Center of the State House before Marean presented the team with an official Legislative Sentiment. The team, as well as individual players, received standing ovations from the members of the house. The Scots were undefeated this year and have won three state championships in the last four years.
The Bonny Eagle Robotics Team, in partnership with Eagle Industries Inc., recently participated in the Granite State Regional FIRST Robotics Competition. FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), is a nonprofit organization which encourages students to pursue careers in science, math, and engineering.
The competition was held Feb. 28, 29, and March 1, at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H. Over 45 high school teams from throughout New England participated in the event, which aims to bring students and professionals together in a two-day competition that emphasizes teamwork, strategy, and creative inventions.
In January, teams were given the task of designing, developing, and building a robot using common parts. The robots then compete in randomly selected alliances, performing a variety of tasks for points. Although the Scots, or Team 133 as they were known in the competition, did not win the championship, they were awarded the Xerox Creativity Award for the overall design of their robot Bert.
