Hemlock Valley Equine Rescue of Standish is hosting their final open house and benefit for 2008 Sunday, Dec. 21, noon to 4 p.m., at 326 Richville Road.

Hemlock Valley is a non-profit organization solely aimed at the rescue and care of horses throughout Maine. Visitors to the barn will meet Orla, Mya, Lacy and other horses that have been rescued due to poor care.

No state or local tax dollars contribute to the care of the horses at Hemlock Valley, said owner Steve Belanger.

“We are only able to provide veterenarian services, food and a caring home with your generous help,” he said. “The smallest of donations is as important as any, as this could provide a bale of shavings for a clean, warm bed.”

With the holiday season upon us, visitors to the open house are being asked to bring with them one non-perishable food item. All food items will be donated to a local food pantry to help less fortunate families.

If you cannot visit on the day of the open house, donations for Hemlock Valley, which are tax deductible, can be mailed to: Hemlock Valley Equine Rescue, 326 Richville Road, Standish, ME 04084.
