Ecomaine, the waste-to-energy plant and recycling center that serves more than 50 communities in southern Maine, including Cape Elizabeth, Scarborough and South Portland, is seeking nominations for its 2015 eco-Excellence Awards.

The awards honor individuals, organizations and businesses that have demonstrated a strong commitment to environmental sustainability during the past year. The deadline for nominations is at 5 p.m. on Jan. 23. See www.ecomaine.org to download nomination forms or for more information.

“With the eco-Excellence Awards, we are looking to recognize champions of sustainability, innovators in either the public or private sector who are committed to improving environmental sustainability in the communities where they live and work,” said Jim Gailey, South Portland city manager and chairman of the ecomaine board.

Any effort or activity that supports environmental sustainability is eligible for nomination and self-nomination is acceptable. All nominees must live, work or be located within ecomaine’s service area. The nominees will be judged on their activity’s overall effectiveness, ability to increase awareness of green issues, community impact and ease of replication.
