A group that includes former Los Angeles Dodgers owner Peter O’Malley and pro golfer Phil Mickelson reached agreement to buy the San Diego Padres from John Moores in a deal believed to be around $800 million.

Ron Fowler, chief executive of Liquid Investments, would become controlling owner if the agreement is approved by baseball owners and finalized, a baseball official said Tuesday.

O’Malley is the son of Walter O’Malley, who bought the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1950 and moved them to Los Angeles before the 1958 season.

WHITE SOX: Kevin Youkilis was scratched from the starting lineup because of a sore right knee.

MARLINS: Miami activated outfielder Giancarlo Stanton from the 15-day disabled list and put him into the starting lineup against the New York Mets.

Infielder Donnie Murphy went on the 15-day DL with a strained left hamstring.

DIAMONDBACKS: Backup catcher Henry Blanco is scheduled for surgery Wednesday to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb and could miss the rest of the season.

METS: New York promoted left-hander Garrett Olson from Triple-A Buffalo and sent down right-handed reliever Elvin Ramirez.

INDIANS: Cleveland recalled right-hander Frank Herrmann from Triple-A Columbus and designated infielder Jose Lopez for assignment.

BLUE JAYS: Right-handers Drew Hutchison and Dustin McGowan are scheduled to have surgery Thursday.

The Blue Jays said the 21-year-old Hutchison will have Tommy John surgery performed by Dr. James Andrews in Pensacola, Fla.

The 30-year-old McGowan will visit Andrews on Wednesday and is scheduled for arthroscopic shoulder surgery to evaluate the right shoulder joint Thursday.

ATHLETICS: Oakland activated infielder Cliff Pennington from the 15-day disabled list.
