Annual Reindeer Auction
On Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m., join the Vendredi Club for its annual Reindeer Auction. The event will be held in the Great Room at the Casco Village Church.
The Vendredi Club, founded in 1944, has held this annual Christmas event for many years to raise funds for Lake Region High School college scholarships and local nonprofit groups. Among the recipients are Casco’s Fire and Rescue, Public Library, Village Church Food Pantry, Meals-On-Wheels and Community Health.
Talented Vendredi members sew, knit, cook, and make high-quality gifts that are beautifully displayed and sold to the highest bidder. You pay only what you think it’s worth.
It’s an evening of fun and laughter as the bidding for a favorite item can be highly competitive. Delicious homemade cookies and brownies are served together with tea, coffee and punch. Vendredi’s own reindeer will be on hand to greet everyone. There will be door prizes, and this year two extra large tote bags filled with Made in Maine items will be raffled off on auction night.
Tickets are available at Dog-Gone Grooming and Final Touch Hair Salon, or you can call Sharon Yackley at 627-7138. For more information, call Vendredi Reindeer Auction Chairwoman Charlotte Seckler at 627-4186.

What’s Big and Yellow and Carries Our Kids?
In today’s hectic world, it is not uncommon to drive around with a hot coffee while talking on the cell phone, listening to the radio and trying to eat that blueberry muffin. With all of this going on in the car, who can really drive? The bus schedule around here is pretty constant. Elementary, middle and high school, and surrounding towns buses come and go all day long. Be mindful of this. Remember that especially this time of year when snow banks grow and grow, it also becomes harder to see the little ones on the side of the road. However, it is not hard to see a giant, yellow school bus stopping to pick up or drop off children, unless your vision is impaired by a blueberry muffin. It is also not hard to see the flashing yellow and red lights on the bus, unless you are texting or dialing numbers on your cell phone. Pay attention people! Watch out for children and stop for school buses.
