Maine Homestead Exemption Program

If you are a Maine homeowner and have resided at the property for at least 12 months prior to April 1, you may be eligible for this state property tax relief program. Forms are being mailed to all new homeowners. If you have questions or have not yet received a form, please call 892-1903. Applications must be filed with the assessor’s office by April 1 to qualify for the 2009-10 tax year. If you received the exemption for the 2008 tax year in Windham, you need not file again, unless you have changed properties.

Beulah Mason recently had her left hip replaced. She will be returning to the Veterans Home in So. Paris located at 477 High Street. She would appreciate cards and notes.

Hold your horses

Maine Equine Associates is offering an Equine Emergency First Aid Clinic to benefit your horse, you, and the Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals. Register online at www.msspa.org or download a registration and mail it MSSPA with your check for $25.

The class will be held Saturday, March 21, at the Society’s 279 River Road, South Windham farm at 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. or 1 p.m.; select the time that works for you. The clinic will feature a hands-on-horse, practical, potentially life-saving class taught by some of the best equine vets in the business. First come, first served; limited space available. Clothes closet

The clothes closet is accepting good used spring clothes for children all ages. Also, there will be a tote in front of the checkout at Shaw’s for the Food Pantry Wish List item of the month, which is tuna. They will also be happy to take any other donated item.

Rebekahs notice

The Rebekahs will meet March 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Odd Fellows Hall. This will be Charter Member and Anniversary Night. There are three charter members: Elsie Haskell, Josie Morrell and Shirley Atkinson. Janet Waterhouse and Jerry Hansen will be in charge of the program and Wendy Miller will be in charge of the refreshments. All members will wear colored gowns.

Welcome to the world

Wendy and Mitch Nugent have welcomed their first child into their home. Madisen Rae Nugent was born Feb. 26 at Maine Medical Center. She weighed seven pounds, three ounces, and was 19 3/4 inches long. Her grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Nugent of Van Nuys, California and Arthur and Carol Riley of Standish.

Shriners to meet

The Lakes Region Shriners will meet March 17 at Gilbert’s Chowder House. The social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. and dinner is at 6:30. Someone from the Shrine Temple in Lewiston will speak to them about the upcoming circus. There will be no meeting in April.
