FREEPORT – The Freeport Town Council will have a new chairman going forward after the incumbent chairman failed to secure reelection on Nov. 6.

Incumbent Ward 4 Councilor Jim Cassida, who was the council’s chairman, lost his bid for another term to challenger Andy Wellen.

The vote was a tight one, but Wellen pulled out the victory, besting Cassida by a count of 655-528.

The Freeport Town Council will select its new chairman and vice chairman at an organizational meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 13.
