The Scarborough Police Department has received information of a possible telemarketing scam going on in the area.

A Scarborough resident reported that she received a phone call from someone who stated he was from “TMS” and that he had information that someone has been taking money out of her bank account without authorization. The telemarketer said he could have the money returned if she gave him the required banking information.

The woman told the caller no and called her bank herself. The bank told her that there was not any activity on her account and they have heard of this occurring elsewhere.

Any resident who receives a similar call should refuse to divulge any personal information over the phone. Instead, residents should call their bank to confirm if the call is legitimate, if it isn’t residents should call the Scarborough police at 883-6361.
