Cub Scout Sign Up

Gray Cub Scout Pack 86 and New Gloucester Cub Scout Pack 135 will hold a barbecue and Spring Sign-up on Friday June 10, 5-8 p.m., at the New Gloucester Bible Church, 218 Lewiston Road in New Gloucester. There will be a Dutch Oven cooking demo, a Body Bubble Arena and hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and cake for supper. Please bring a side dish for all to enjoy. Just Keep Swimming

American Red Cross swimming lessons will be held at Wilkies Beach on Crystal Lake in Gray. Lessons will be on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays from June 28 to July 28. Fee: $35 a child. Registration night is June 14 from 6 to 7 p.m. These lessons are available for all children in the Gray/New Gloucester area. The times for each age group will be announced at registration. Lions winner

Lion Dean Neal presented a gift certificate for $200 worth of fuel oil to Matthieu Bedard of Gray. Matt, a first time donor, was the lucky winner at the May 23rd Lions Club Blood Drive in Gray.

The fuel oil was donated by Mark Feensta, owner of Our Oil Inc., and helped encourage people to come to the Lions drive. The result was a very successful drive yielding 106 pints of precious blood. The Lions and Red Cross are thankful for Mark’s generous donation and all those caring folks who found the time to give the gift of life.

Bean supper

A Public Supper featuring baked beans, casseroles, salads, homemade breads and desserts and beverages will be held Saturday, June 25, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, Route 115, Gray. Author, Author

On Thursday, June 16 at 2 p.m., the Gray Public Library welcomes Maine’s own Monica Wood, author of “My Only Story,” “Ernie’s Ark,” “Secret Language” and “Any Bitter Thing.” She will be at the library for a discussion and book signing. The 50 Forward Group that is meeting at Town Hall on Wednesdays brings new meaning to the term, “Gamers.” The Community Room on the second floor of the original Pennell building is transformed on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., into a grown-up game room where the coffee and tea flow freely, the goodies are sweet and tasty, and the games are on. This group of residents from Gray and surrounding communities welcomes newcomers. There is no special registration, and at this time there are no dues, however, folks do contribute toward refreshments.

Gray’s Got Talent

Studio for the Living Arts Dance Center will be holding their end-of-year recitals, “Born to Dance,” on Sunday, June 11, at two shows, 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. (sold out) at Windham High School. Tickets are still available for the 1 p.m. show.

Pulse Dance Company functions as both a performance group and a competitive team for dance students ages 9-18. Pulse Dance Company is open to serious and experienced Studio for the Living Arts dancers. Pulse can be seen on Sunday, June 12, in the Old Port Festival Parade and at 2 p.m. at Post Office Park performing hip-hop and jazz numbers.

On Saturday, June 11, Biodiversity Institute (BRI), will be at the Maine Wildlife Park, Route 26 in Gray. By harnessing the power of state-of-the-art technology, people are connected to wildlife and ecological science through the use of BRI webcams. Join some of the folks from Maine’s Biodiversity Institute in Gorham with an interesting display focusing on this group’s work with Maine wildlife.

On Saturday, June 18, the Maine Wildlife Park will feature Fly Tying & Fly Casting with Trout Unlimited. Sebago Trout Unlimited (TU) Chapter members will be on hand to teach these popular fishing techniques. www.sebagotu.org.

Summer in Gray

Co-Ed Adult Softball – starting Sundays, June 12, at Newbegin Field from 1-3 p.m., cost: $2 per player / per visit.

Men’s Top Flight BB – Monday or Tuesday games at Newbegin Gym. Starts June 20, and ends Aug. 30. Times are 6:15/7:15/8:15 p.m. Must be 18 years of age or older. Rosters limited to 10. Gray election

Voting for the Gray Municipal Elections is Tuesday, June 14, starting at 6 a.m. at Newbegin Gym, 22 Main Street. Voters will decide the budget articles previously affirmed by the Town Council, as well as Municipal, SAD 15 and Gray Water District office budgets.
