RAYMOND – An unidentified Raymond man was hospitalized this week and two men were arrested after an attack at a vehicle repair garage on Mill Street in Raymond Monday night.

According to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, at about 10 p.m. Monday night, deputies responded to a privately owned garage at 75 Mill St. following a dispute between several men who were at the garage. During the dispute, the 51-year-old unidentified victim was beaten and run over by a vehicle. He was rushed to Maine Medical Center with chest injuries and a broken leg.

Police say the incident, which was reportedly spurred by a financial debt owed by the victim, escalated until a fight broke out. Police say a garage worker armed himself with a splitting maul, as it was believed that one of the suspects had a gun. During the skirmish, one of the attackers drove over the victim with his vehicle, police say.

The two attackers then fled the scene and were picked up by Windham police a short time later and detained until deputies could arrive.

Hubert A. Libby, Jr., 51, of 363 Sebago Lake Road in Gorham, was arrested on a misdemeanor assault charge for punching the unidentified victim. And Richard Valliere, 35, of 34 Peavey Ave., Windham, was arrested on a felony charge of reckless conduct with a motor vehicle for running over the victim. The two also face robbery charges and are being held on $10,000 cash bail at Cumberland County Jail.

The case remains under investigation.
