Dwight Webb was named temporary school superintendent in March of 1956 and then acting superintendent four months later. The move by Gorham’s school committee came after Westbrook’s school committee unanimously voted to dissolve the Westbrook-Gorham school union in January 1956. Westbrook-Gorham Superintendent Anthony G.L. Brackett had resigned to accept a post in Massachusetts. Webb was chosen as Gorham’s superintendent in July 1957, and served through August 1972, when he was succeeded by Woodbury “Woody” Saunders.
