Boyle to seek Senate re-election

Following state-wide redistricting, Sen. Jim Boyle, D-Gorham, has announced that he will seek re-election to the Maine Senate in November, this time in the newly redistricted Senate District 30, which includes all of Gorham, and most of the communities of Buxton and Scarborough. Boyle is currently a senator for District 6, which includes Gorham, Scarborough and Westbrook.

Boyle owns and operates Boyle Associates, an environmental consulting firm. In a press release, he cited his experience as both a small business owner and a senator as reasons for seeking a second term.

Boyle graduated from the University of Maine in 1980. He lives near the Presumpscot River in North Gorham with his partner, Sue, and their two dogs. He has two grown children, Jared and Lindsay.

‘The Wizard of Oz’ is GHS spring musical

The Gorham High School Drama Department will stage “The Wizard of Oz” on the weekends of March 28-30 and April 4-6. Rehearsals and set designs are under way, said Michael Lortie, a school counselor at Great Falls Elementary, who is producing the show.

“This is the 75th anniversary of the iconic Judy Garland movie, so it seems appropriate that we undertake this exciting challenge,” said Bruce Avery, director, in a statement. “Everyone knows the story and loves the characters, so the expectations will run high for this production. Fortunately, we have an excellent cast, building and design crew and production team, which will do justice to this very challenging musical.”

Project Graduation benefit reminder

Gorham High School’s Project Graduation, has announced an upcoming fundraiser featuring Motor Booty Affair.

Bank promotes four

Gorham Savings Bank has promoted Eric Andrews, Cheryl Brandt, Julie Case and Jeremy Clough. Andrews, chief banking officer, will be responsible for several lines of business, including residential and consumer lending, retail banking, small business banking, credit and collection functions, and cash management. Prior to joining Gorham Savings Bank as chief risk officer in 2012, Andrews was senior vice president and loan officer at Kennebunk Savings Bank.

Previously senior vice president and director of sales, Brandt, executive vice president, retail banking, has been in banking for 25 years. She came to Gorham Savings Bank in 1999 and has been in senior management for the last 10 years.

Case is vice president, senior risk and compliance officer. Case joined Gorham Savings Bank in 2011 and has been in banking for 25 years, most recently with Machias Savings Bank. Clough is vice president and information security officer. Clough was with TD Bank before joining Gorham Savings Bank in 2006 as a database programmer.

U.S. taxpayer debt

The Bureau of the Fiscal Service reported on Feb. 13 that the U.S. public debt was $17,258,805,514,290.93.

Waiting in line to walk the plank are Grant Connelie of Johnstown, N.Y., 7, who was visiting, and Christopher Kusturin, 10. Youth Service Librarian Kathy Stevens said 190 children attended the event. “They’re still coming in,” Stevens said, with about an hour left in a four-hour program.
