CASCO – A Casco man faces multiple charges after he fled police who were investigating a domestic violence complaint.
Matthew Burnham, of Shadow Lane, is facing charges of domestic violence assault, obstructing a crime to be reported, criminal mischief, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, criminal speed and operating without a license.
Authorities say Burnham fled his residence in a 2006 Dodge Caravan after the victim of the assault called police. Fearing he would be caught, Burnham is believed to have passed police on Route 302 at a high rate of speed.
Just after noon, while traveling in the area of 315 Roosevelt Trail in Casco, Burnham lost control of the van, leaving the roadway, causing the vehicle to go end over end, crashing into a parked Chevy Avalanche and coming to rest. Burnham was trapped in the vehicle, requiring Casco Fire/EMS to extricate him. He was transported to Bridgton Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No other individuals were involved in the crash.
According to police, the investigation regarding the domestic violence is ongoing but charges are forthcoming. The victim did not require medical attention.
