I would like to say thank you to the town of Raymond and Frye Island for coming together with an agreement for added police surveillance. I live on Webbs Mills Road and run a childcare facility and it seems lately that it has turned into more of a highway than a country road.

Webbs Mills is the main road to the Town Office, the schools, and Egypt Road. Every day I see people running, walking their dogs, riding bikes, walking, etc. on Webbs Mills Road. Every day I also see more and more cars speeding up and down the road. Having extra eyes watching the roads in Raymond can only help, not hurt.

I am baffled by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office’s attitude about having to “come and clean up after them” (them meaning the Frye Island police). The Sheriff’s Department has a large area to cover with the limited force that they have. I would think that any extra help would be a benefit.

Frye Island is not responding to any calls. They are just catching people speeding between Frye Island and where they live on Egypt Road.

Last Saturday as I was working in my yard a Frye Island Police Officer pulled over a speeding car in front of my house. Meanwhile, not one hour later did the ice cream truck come down the street and stop for some kids. Something needs to be done before someone gets seriously hurt. I have heard that there is a lot of speeding on the Cape Road but this is also a problem on Webbs Mills Road.

Raymond is only benefiting from this agreement. I say we start finding the good in it instead of all the pitfalls. I definitely appreciate the extra help and say thank you for putting this agreement together.
