Police are still investigating a deadly car crash in Scarborough last weekend that claimed the life of a Westbrook woman and sent five other people to the hospital.

Brenda Kirk, 43, was pronounced dead on the scene on Saturday, Sept. 9.

According to Scarborough police, at about 3:20 p.m., Kirk’s 1998 Ford Taurus struck an SUV traveling in the opposite lane on Beech Ridge Road, near the Dresser Road intersection. The driver of the SUV, Barbara Morgan-White, 35, of Scarborough, only had minor injuries and was not taken to the hospital.

Kirk’s car also struck an Audi in the other lane after hitting Morgan-White’s vehicle. The driver in the Audi, Ann Fortune, 37, of Manchester, N.H., suffered injuries to her legs and hip and was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland. Three children in Fortune’s car sustained non-life threatening injuries and were taken to Maine Medical Center, as well.

Kirk’s passenger, 45-year-old Ronald Cyr of Portland, suffered severe injuries to his chest, back and legs. He was transported to Maine Medical Center.

Police are still determining why Kirk’s car struck the SUV.
