BATH — United Way of Mid Coast Maine missed its campaign goal this year by about $49,000, or 3 percent.

But officials are determined to make up the difference.

“We’re not done yet,” Executive Director Barbara Reinertsen said in an interview Nov. 13.

This year’s goal was $1.9 million, a little less than the nearly $1.92 million the organization hoped to raise last year. United Way raised $1.85 million by the Nov. 12 campaign finale.

Lennie Burke and Bob Beaumont, a couple from Brunswick, led the campaign, the theme of which was “Together We Can.”

The timing for raising the rest of the funds is good, Reinertsen said, because many people make their charitable decisions at the end of the year.

Giving to United Way’s cause is important, she said, “because … the more money we raise, the more people in Mid-Coast Maine who will get helped when they need it.”

The organization knows there are many people in need, and “excellent agencies and programs” to provide that help, Reinertsen explained.

But “what we need are the donations from throughout Mid-Coast Maine to keep those programs up and running, so they’re there when people need them,” she added, noting how generous the community has been in that regard.
