BRUNSWICK — A Brunswick man was charged with elevated aggravated assault Oct. 16 after police say he attacked his 91-year-old father with a bat Friday morning at their home on Mere Point Road.

Christopher Porter, 49, was arrested at the Brunswick police station. Bail was set at $25,000 cash, Cmdr. Marc Hagan said Friday afternoon.

Porter’s father, James Porter, suffered head injuries and was taken by Brunswick Rescue to Maine Medical Center, where he was listed in fair condition early Friday afternoon.

Officers went to the family’s home just after 7:30 a.m. Friday after the victim’s wife called 911, Hagan said.

Brunswick police and the Maine State Police evidence response team were at the scene for several hours. Detectives seized a bat as part of their search for evidence, Hagan said.

After being taken into custody at the scene without incident, Christopher Porter went to Mid Coast Hospital for evaluation. He was later taken to the Brunswick police station, where he was charged.

He was scheduled to be taken to Cumberland County Jail later Friday afternoon. He is scheduled to appear in Cumberland County Superior Court on Dec. 22.
