Brunswick police are trying to determine who shot and injured an Arabian horse with a small caliber gun on Coombs Road over weekend.

The owner of Flash, a brown horse that is 20 years old, told police that the animal was fine on Saturday but was bleeding on Sunday. However it was not immediately clear what was wrong with the animal, said Deputy Chief Marc Hagan.

When the veterinarian was able to examine the horse Tuesday, it turned out there were three wounds. Two bullets hit the horse on the top of the head, breaking the skin but not embedding in the animal, Hagen said. A third shot did puncture the horse’s side.

The veterinarian opted to leave the bullet in place saying it would be more dangerous to remove it, Hagen said. The incident is probably not related to hunting because most hunters do not use a small caliber firearm when hunting, Hagen said.

Police asked that anyone with information call 725-5521.
